Mion-Lana Supports Needy School Children

Mion, Ghana – The Chief of Mion traditional area in the Northern Region, Mion Lana, Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu has taken a giant step to support needy school children in the area.

He is to launch an Education Endowment Fund to solicit for support from charity organizations and philanthropists to achieve this goal.

A Non-Governmental Organization known as the La-Wuogon Muslims Trust is the first to support the Mion Lana with a large number of branded learning materials for onward distribution to the pupils of Sambu Primary School.

These include books, pens, pencils and other valuables needed to encourage the pupils to learn.

The Executive Director of the La-Wuogon Muslims Trust, Chief Kamalrideen Ibn Farid said the group sought to to support the Mion Lana’s agenda to improve basic school pupils performance.

According to him, the donation formed part of the NGO’s initiative christened, “Back to School Project.”

Chief Kamalrideen Ibn Farid bemoaned the infrastructure deficit at the Sambu primary school and pledged his organization’s committment to change the situation there.

“The structures require serious rehabilitation works and additional classroom blocks. I want to assure you that our group will immediately assist the community to complete the ongoing Girls Model School block and further take into consideration, rehabilitating the dilapidated structures.”

“The Mion district has become part of the catchment areas of the organization for the implementation of the Back to School Project and more support will be given to children in the community.”

“Education materials to the children will continue, now, Mion has become part of us and we will sustain the project,” he reiterated.

The Mion Lana, Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu commended the group for the support.

“The items couldn’t have come at a better time than this crucial hour as basic schools have reopened. “This intervention will alleviate the plight of needy school pupils in the community.”

Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu made a passionate appeal to the Executive Director of the La-Wuogon Muslims Trust, other benevolent organizations and government to support the area with adequate infrastructure.

“The existing infrastructure in the area, especially at the Sambu Kindergarten and Primary school is bad. This contributes to school dropouts which is affecting girl child education.”

“The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the community have voluntarily put up a three classroom block as the Girls Model School to improve Girl Child Education but due to insufficient funds, the project has not been completed before this new academic season” he lamented.
