Savelugu, Ghana – Foto4Change, a social enterprise being led by multiple award-winning Ghanaian photojournalist Geoffrey Buta, has presented photography equipment worth thousands of cedis to the Savelugu School for the Death in the Northern Region of Ghana.
The equipment included a hi-spec canon digital camera, speedlite, tripod and other accessories.
Mr. Buta who led a team to make the presentation on Monday said “We at Foto4change are privileged to have presented camera, Speedlite, tripod, and other accessories to the students of the Savelugu school for the Deaf in the Northern Region of Ghana.”
He added: “The importance of visual storytelling and supporting these special students has become more necessary than ever, as it has the power to shape their perception, tell their own stories and make history.”
Mr. Buta who is Northern Regional Editor for the state-owned New Times Corporation which have subsidiaries like The Ghanaian Times and The Spectator Newspapers, said the presentation was to equip the children in the school to enable them express themselves to the world on how visual storytelling was a very effective means of self-expression against social issues that affected them and also the journey to becoming young professional visual journalists.
“The students will also be coached by some of the leading photo professionals in the country from whom they will receive training, inspirational lectures as well as having their portfolios reviewed within a group session.
The mentors will share practical advice as well as their thoughts and perspectives over trends and developments in the industry”, he explained.
Mr. Buta who is the Director of Foto4Change further stressed that, “Part of Foto4Change’s goal is also to transform these special young talents into world renowned professional visual storytellers to champion future visual storytelling by giving them the tools, knowledge and opportunity to advance their careers and build on their skills.”
Meanwhile, after the training by Foto4Change, there would be a national photography contest among the various death schools in the country and an exhibition where students would be awarded for showcasing their talents and capabilities.
