Tamale, Ghana – The Northern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party, at its Executive Committee meeting yesterday, has indefinitely suspended all electoral processes leading to the elections of Polling Station Executives, Electoral Areas Coordinators and others in the Bimbilla and Daboya-Mankaragu Constituencies in the Northern Region.
This decision was arrived at following security assessment in the two respective constituencies and also in consultation with the party hierarchy and the political heads in the two constituencies.
“As all of us are aware, the Northern Region towns of Bimbilla, Daboya and Mankaragu are currently witnessing chieftaincy and tribal tensions that has led, unfortunately, to the lost of some lives and properties. The Party therefore thinks it will be proper to postpone all party activities in these towns until calm is restored”, Director of Communications and Media Affairs of Northern Regional NPP Secretariat, Mr Issahaque A. Latif said in a statement copied to Savannahnews.
In a similar vein, following series of written petitions and complaints of electoral malpractices and fraud against the current electoral processes in the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituencies of the Northern Region, the Regional Executive Committee has decided to intervene, and thus, has suspended forthwith the election processes leading to the election of Polling Station Executive and Electoral Area Coordinators in the Nalerigu-Gambaga Constituency in order to avert any trouble.
Meanwhile, the petitions on the processes has been referred to the Regional Elections Committee for their study and necessary action.
The Regional Executive Committee is urging calm among party followers and supporter in the affected constituencies as it works to put intervening structures and strategies in place to allow all qualified and interested party people exercise their democratic rights.
