Gold Fields First Female Metallurgical Mgr Receives Citation as One of 100 MIPs From Northern Ghana

Tarkwa Damang, Ghana – Catherine Kuupol Kuutor, Gold Fields West Africa’s first female Metallurgical Manager, has received a citation of honour from Rudder Communications and its subsidiary SavannahNewsOnline.Com.

The citation of honour which was presented to her at her work place on Monday is part of the ongoing implementation of “The 100 Most Influential Personalities From Northern Ghana (The 100 MIPs)” project.

Mrs. Catherine Kuutor was in July 2019 nominated among 200 distinguished personalities who hail from different parts of the Northern Ghana – Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and Savannah Regions and excelling in various career fields in home and abroad.

Nominated under the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) category, she made it to the final list of 100 Most Influential Personalities out of 200 nominees after the end of voting on July 31, 2019.

The objectives of one of the most laudable human capital development project being spearheaded by Tamale-based Rudder Communications and SavannahNewsOnline.Com is to use the success stories of successful and influential citizens from Northern Ghana to inspire school children and other young people to dream big.

It also seeks to whip up interest in reading amongst children at the basic and senior high school levels so as to enhance their level of literacy. Furthermore, it seeks to ignite the interest in entrepreneurship amongst the youth of Northern Ghana through the inspiring success stories of some of the personalities.

The 100 MIPs 2019 List

With over 16 years of experience in mineral processing, Mrs. Catherine Kuutor competently worked her way up to become the head of the Metallurgy Department at the Damang mine of Gold Fields in 2017.

The mother of three, previously worked at Golden Star Wassa Mine as a Senior Plant Shift Supervisor, International Cyanide Management Code Coordinator as well as Operations and Technical Superintendent Reliever.

She is currently a PhD student at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa. She holds an MSc in Mineral Engineering from UMaT and a Diploma in Mineral Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology School of Mines. She has also been awarded certificates of competency in processing and metallurgy.

Mrs. Catherine Kuutor after receiving her citation from the Executive Director of Rudder Communications, Joseph Ziem, thanked him and his team for the wonderful initiative intended to inspire young people in and out of school.
