Tamale, Ghana – Northern Sector Senior Manager for General Trade at MTN Ghana, Simon Amoh, has observed that “with digitization and innovation at the fore front and consumers opting for fast and convenient ways to make payments and transactions, digital payments have come to stay.”
He said “fostering and accelerating growth in digital payments require the shared responsibility of all stakeholders, mainly our subscribers, regulators, partners, media as well as other stakeholders in the digital finance sector.
For us to foster gains, build economies of scale in the sector and promote sustainable economic growth, we need to leverage the power of collaboration and partnership.”
Speaking at the launch of the 2022 MTN Mobile Money month celebration in Tamale on Tuesday August 8, Mr. Amoh noted that MTN continues to strengthen its partnership with banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions to deepen digital payments.
“Again, we promote our MoMo business platform, the MoMo open API, the merchant app and consumer apps through sustainable partnerships. This is mainly because we cannot grow the digital payments platform without collaborating with like-minded organisations. As our mother company drives its platform agenda to create opportunities for others to leverage, Mobile Money Limited is using its platform as springboard for all in the digital payments space.”
Since 2012, MoMo month has been held annually to create awareness about the digital payment platform, drive financial inclusion and rewarded thousands of customers, agents and merchants.
Under theme: “Accelerating Growth in Digital Payments: The Role of Partnerships”, this years MoMo month celebration has several activities lined up to drive partnerships in the digital payment space from now till the end of October 2022.”
According to Mr. Amoh, there will be customer promos, digital fairs, and market storms, stakeholder forum, and exciting new initiative named “catch them young” which seeks to educate young people on financial literacy. He appealed to market women and other groups of traders who have not yet signed up to MTN MoMo platform to endeavor to do so now “because from this month to the end of October the more digital payments you make or receive the more you increase your chances of winning some E-cash.”
Northern Ghana Manager for MTN Mobile Money Implementation, Tawfiq Moomen, in his presentation said customers of MTN stand to win cash prizes between August 15th and end of October whenever they receive money, send money or transact business with their MoMo number.
“We’re giving priority to those who will use the mobile money app. We seek to reward 250 customers every week for the next twelve weeks. By the end of the 12th week about 756,000 customers would have been rewarded. The first prize winner takes Gh¢5,000, second prize winner takes Gh¢4,000 and in that order”, he explained.
Mr. Moomen cautioned customers of MTN MoMo never to give their pin numbers to any close family member or friend. “Treat your MoMo pin as your personal property. Never give it out to your wife, husband or father.”
