Bauk Clan in Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Make Demands After Murder of Kinsmen

Tamale, Ghana – The Bauk clan in Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo has expressed disgust over the gruesome murder of members of their family at Najong number one by persons suspected to be members of the Tanmung clan.

According to the clan, on Sunday 10th December, 2017 between 1800 and 1900 GMT, a group of youth on motorbikes suspected to be members of the Tanmung clan, attacked the Najong market leading to the death of four people with several others including women and children getting wounded.

The protracted land dispute between the Bauk and Tanmung clans which has existed for several decades, have led to the closure of a Bauk community school and the closure of major roads linking both communities.

At a press briefing in Tamale, Spokesperson to the Bauk clan, Gberika Duut Yandam, said in the history of Bimoba land, the Bauk clan has always been law abiding, peaceful and sociable.

He however cautioned that his kinsmen and kinswomen have been stretched beyond their elastic limit and would be compelled to retaliate if measures are not put in place by the district security council and other stakeholders to bring finality to the dispute.

Mr. Yandam called for the immediate investigation of the current killings in order to bring the perpetrators to book citing one Kombat “Saa”, a businessman and transport owner who has made it his business of illegally transporting weapons into the area.

He urged the Deputy Northern Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Bunkpurugu Constituency Mr. Solomon Boar to resign from his position as minister since he has failed to deal with the problem in opposition and in government.

Mr. Yandam also called for the establishment of a police station and a court in Najong number one to provide security and judicial services to the people in the district.

He further called for the reopening of the school, blocked roads for free movement of goods and services as well as the provision of electricity and potable water to the Bauk settlement in Sayoo.
