Dear President Nana Addo Danquah,
Less than 15 months ago (in opposition), some of us blindly joined the NPP to condemn the Mahama-led government and how it kept increasing fuel prices.
During the NPP campaign whilst addressing students of the Sunyani Polytechnic on November 11 2016, you made this statement, “We’re being told that very soon, they are going to reduce the petroleum (energy sector) levy (on the price buildup of petroleum prices). We, in the NPP, have been calling for a reduction in the levy to bring relief to the people. But, they (Mahama government) said no. Once again, with the election around the corner, he is likely to do that (reduce the prices)…. after 8 years at the Presidency, he’s not prepared to let go because of the perquisites and benefits of office for himself, his family and close associates”.
On December 23, 2015, the NDC Majority in Parliament rushed through an Energy Sector Levy Bill (2015), under a certificate of emergency, which imposed more taxes on petroleum products. The new levies were strongly opposed by the Minority NPP Mps, who argued that they would impose more hardship on the already suffering Ghanaian.
You continued, “Crude oil prices are coming down, but in Ghana, we are paying more for petrol. We are supposed to have an automatic price adjustment policy which should have brought down the cost of petroleum products, on the contrary, it is going up. Why?”
Today, may I also respectfully ask WHY, His Excellency? Is this a case of both you and JDM playing games with us? You appealed to Ghanaians to give you a chance to effect #CHANGE during your campaign, but it appears we’ve been fooled!
Mr. President, I’m only an ordinary citizen, but may I humbly ask. Is it a case of officials forgetting how we all struggled to kick out a party that took us for granted or is a case of you being so out of touch with us ordinary Ghanaians today because you no longer pay for fuel?
For some of us, it appears NPP/NDC are two sides of the same coin with no real value!
Those jumping around you like kids whose dad just bought them toys and posting your photos as their profile pictures can’t love you more than they love themselves. They’re only trying to lead you astray with lies and praises even when you veer off the lane. It’s sheer stomach politics! It’s all gimmicks to feed off your back and siphon state funds whenever you take of your eyes off the balls. Not to say, every single one of them, though…. and can’t we do politics in Ghana with a wee bit of honesty and genuineness?
Sir, you’ve tasked me to be a citizen, and not a spectator.
Yours sincerely
Anyako Citizen #Nine
