Hunters in Salaga Burn Over 5,000 Tubers of Yam

Salaga, Ghana – Hunters on an expedition, have burnt down several farms in Kalande, a notable yam producing community in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region.

Authorities disclosed to mynewsgh.com that the incident occurred during the wee hours of last Sunday burning over 5,000 tubers of yam that were on the affected farms.

According to one of the victims Timothy Bamusani, the hunters numbering over hundred set a nearby bush on fire which gutted his farm burning about 5, 000 tubers of yam and 2000 yam seedlings that were meant for planting.

He disclosed the hunters travel 104kms to the area every year to hunt for game and end up destroying their farms.

The matter has since been reported to the DCE for East Gonja who disclosed that he is working with the police to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
