uniBank Will go Back to Duffour And Rightful Owners – Adongo

Sagnarigu, Ghana – Vociferous National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has appealed to Ghanaians holding accounts with ‘distressed uniBank Ghana’ to keep faith with the financial institution with a strong assurance that the bank will go back to Dr. Kwabena Duffour and it’s rightful owners.

He accused the Bank of Ghana of selective application of its rules to favour the “parochial interest” of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta who according to him was not in favour of some shareholders of ADB pledging their shares to uniBank Ghana.

Addressing the student wing of the NDC at Tamale Technical University in the Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region over the weekend, Mr Adongo said Mr Ofori-Atta and the leadership of the Bank of Ghana were the ones destroying private sector businesses using the advantage of political power to further their financial interest.

“We will not allow uniBank to be collapsed on the alter of political expediency. I want to encourage those of you here with uniBank accounts to stay put. The bank will bounce back to Duffour and its rightful owners”, he stated.

He continued: “These people are not only clueless, they are wicked people. Clearly these people are a danger to the future of Ghana’s growing business community”.

He also questioned the competence of Simon Donu who the Bank of Ghana wants to put out as a “poster boy” for the uniBank management takeover, adding “if the caretaker role for uniBank were to be advertised, Simon Donu will not get the job. Though a staff of KPMG, Mr. Donu muddied himself in petty partisan politicking and showcased his incompetence running GCB, an appointment that was political. Next week I will release a statement on Simon Donu” the Lawmaker declared.

Turning his attention to the economy, Mr Adongo chastised the Akufo-Addo led administration of incompetent borrowing saying “it is only NPP who have borrowed Ghc28.6 billion in one year but remains dry as it is”.

“My worry is that this government is creating rising debt and Ghana is suffering from high rising debt and we are worried this will create problems for this country”, he said.
