At least over 3000 people have been rendered homeless at Salaga in the East Gonja Municipality of the Northern Region after a severe rainstorm occurred on Wednesday April 4th.
The storm which started around 5pm lasted for close to two hours.
According to the Municipal NADMO coordinator Ibrahim Alhassan, this is the second time within a month the people have been hit by a rainstorm.
” A lot of houses have been affected including schools. As we speak so schools have been totally wiped off ” he lamented.
He added that they are still taking records of affected houses to write a report to the region which will be forwarded to the national office and assured the victims his office will work hard to ensure they get relief items to support them.
Some of the victims who spoke in an interview with Savannahnewsonline.com, said they slept in mosques after the storm.
The Municipal Chief Executive Mohammed Tamimu together with the Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency, Salifu Adam Braimah, went round to assess the situation and to sympathize with the victims and assured them of the support of government.
They have since provided 20 packs of roofing sheet to be distributed to victims as they work to get more support.
