3 Northern Regional NPP Chairmen Okay Blay

Tamale, Ghana – The chairmen of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern, Upper East, Upper West Regions, Mohammed A. Bantima Samba, Lawyer Anthony Naamo and S.B. Kangberee respectively have unanimously endorsed the candidature of Freddie Blay, who is seeking to become the substantive National Chairman of the party.

The Upper East NPP Chairman of the party, Lawyer Anthony Naamo, who read a statement on behalf of his colleagues, said although every member of the party contributed to the victory in 2016, Mr Blay, who was captain at the time, played a crucial role.

The decision of the party’s executives comes ahead of the party’s National Delegates’Conference slated from 7-8 July, 2018, in the Eastern Region.

According to the chairmen from the three regions, Mr Blay, the acting National Chairman of the NPP, successfully managed the affairs of the party to capture power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016 after the party’s headquarters witnessed skirmishes under the leadership of Paul Afoko, the suspended chairman.

The chairmen added that after carefully assessing all the candidates, they and other delegates decided to back Mr. Blay.

They indicated that they took the decision based on their love for the party.

“We can’t afford to experiment with our mandate when Mr. Blay has been tried and tested to lead us,” they said.

Messers Samba, Naamo and Kangberee called on all delegates and chairmen of the party in the various regions to overwhelmingly support Mr. Blay, saying the party cannot gamble with its chances.

“We have a strong conviction that Mr. Blay is the right man for the job; he did the unexpected job for us in opposition so why can’t he do same or even better now that we are in government with a lot of goodwill from the majority of Ghanaians after fulfilling most of our campaign promises. Let’s not gamble with our chances beyond two terms, let’s stay focused on our agenda for 2020 and beyond,” they stressed.
