Sagnarigu Municipality Gets Girls’ Model School

Sagnarigu, Ghana – The Sagnarigu Naa, Naa Abdulai Yakubu, has cut sod for the building of a three-unit classroom block model school in the Sagnarigu Municipality.

The project forms part of ActionAid girls’ model school to provide quality education and life skills training to girls to bridge the educational gap between males and females in the municipality and the region at large.

The girls’ model school is a model to educational training for girls to empower and equip them with the right skills and training aimed at equipping them to be responsible and develop confidence in themselves.

According to the Northern Regional Director of ActionAid Ghana, Esther Boateng, the project is expected to be completed within three months at a cost of GH₵350,000.

Out of this, GH₵220,000 is the cost of the building, with the rest of the money being the cost of furniture, training for teachers and provision of basic logistics for the school.

The three-unit classroom will consist of a library, dressing room, staff common room and washrooms.

The Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly is known for its high record of female school drop-outs; with most of its female students dropping out of school because of teenage pregnancy.

While praising ActionAid for the initiative to uplift the standard of girl-child education in the municipality, Mariam Iddrisu, the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, implored teachers in the municipality, especially teachers for the girls’ model school to develop and design the best teaching and learning modules to provide quality education for females.

Naa Abdulai Yakubu urged the municipal educational director to ensure qualified teachers are posted to the school to provide quality education to the students.

He further called for the right and enough teaching and learning materials to be supplied to the school to aid teaching and learning.

He also admonished teachers not to abuse their authority by taking undue advantage of the girls, adding that schools should be the grounds to produce girls of the highest moral standards and values.
