Politicians Must Stay Away From Dagbon Customs – Regent

Yendi, Ghana – The Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Andani, has called on politicians to stop interfering in the customs and traditions of Dagbon in order to ensure lasting peace in the area.

The Regent made the call when chiefs in the Northern Region paid a curtsy call on him in Yendi at his palace to discuss measures to ensure lasting peace in the Dagbon Traditional Area.

About 56 Paramount Chiefs and Sub-chiefs in Dagbon called on the Regent at his palace in Yendi.

The Dagbon Kingdom has been characterized by repeated succession disputes and violent conflicts since the 1920s.

Several incidents of violence have occurred, including in 2002 when the King of Dagbon Yakubu Andani II, was murdered in cold blood.

To avert the recur of that unfortunate act and to find lasting solution to the problem, the Paramount Chiefs have been meeting in Yendi to brainstorm on the issue.

Speaking to the media, the Regent of Dagbon Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Andani urged politicians to desist from meddling in the chieftaincy affairs of Dagbon and it’s citizens.

According to him, customs and traditions must be left in the hands of the traditional authorities.

He thus called on the youth to desist from acts that will mar peace and unity in the area.

The custodian of Dagbon customs and tradition Kug-Naa Abdulai Adams also called for understanding in resolving the prolong chieftaincy problem.
