Bole, Ghana – Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana COCOBOD, Joseph Boahen Aidoo, has said that the sheanut industry can become a major economic unit for the people in Northern Ghana considering measures government is putting in place.
He explained that COCOBOD and government want to promote the shea industry to become a major economic unit for the people and that part of their responsibility is to do research and also see to it that the shea industry is conserved, have good market and promoted as an industry just as they did for cocoa in Southern Ghana.
Mr Aidoo said this when he visited Bole Friday 10th August, 2018 to interact with Bole District Farmers including sheanut pickers.
Speaking to Nkilgi FM at Bole, Mr Aidoo said he was in Northern Ghana purposely to have a feeling of the sheanuts industry and to get first hand information to be able to present to the Board of Directors for them to take an informed decision for the industry.
Addressing a cross section of farmers and sheanut pickers in Bole, Mr Aidoo said interacting with them will inform their policy towards improvement in the sheanuts industry.
He disclosed that a new office for the sheanuts unit of COCOBOD has been opened at Tamale so as to to get closer to sheanut pickers for easy co-ordination.
He said the office at Tamale will be the foothold of the industry and will be the central point for research, information and promotion of the shea for the three Regions of Northern Ghana.
According to him, additional offices will be opened at Wa and Bolgatanga later.
The Bole District Chief Farmer Alhaji Abudulai Allakabo thanked the COCOBOD Chief Executive, his Directors and the Northern Regional Chief Farmer Alhaji Imoro Yusif Alhassan for the visit.
He said the meeting is the first time they had a COCOBOD Chief Executive attending and that the interaction they had with him will go a long way to help the farmers and Sheanut pickers.
