I Did Not Divert Any Fertiliser- Says Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Agric Director

Sawla, Ghana – The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Director of Agriculture, Martin Galaa, has said it is not true that he diverted 540 bags of fertiliser as being alleged by the New Patriotic Party Chairman Fuseini Mohammed.

He said only 426 bags were in stock and out of the 426 bags, 28 bags were broken bags and can be found at the warehouse.

Mr Martin Galaa said the balance of 398 bags were distributed in accordance with the 2018 modalities for fertilizer distribution which requires that farmers go to any Agriculture Development Bank Ltd (ADB) to pay; bring the pay in slip and the farmer is served.

He indicated that, the 398 bags were distributed among individual farmers and farmer groups including the society of the disabled who incidentally were sponsored by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly.

He said the proceeds from the 398 bags has been safely lodged into the Planting for Food and Jobs accounts at the Bole ADB branch and this is verifiable.

The NPP Chairman for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, Fuseini Mohammed recently alleged that 540 bags of fertilizer from the government could not be accounted for by the Agric Director.

The Agric Director said he identified the first diversion of 114 bags with the collaboration of the NPP Executives but they now want to lure him into accepting that 540 bags were left over.

He said he is surprised the NPP Chairman and his team want justice and yet do not want to come with clean hands.

According to him, they took over and distributed the 2017 fertilizer and he is yet to ascertain the actual beneficiaries.

He dared them to tell the public who got the fertiliser more this year since the fertiliser distribution started. “The many people they distributed the 2018 fertilizer to will need to be established”, Mr Galas stated.
