Damongo, Ghana – There is a heated and unending debate between the Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo Constituency, Adams Mutawakilu Garlus and their supporters over which political party or personality is best qualified to claim ownership of an ongoing extension of electricity to some Communities in the West Gonja District.
The beneficiary communities are Murugu, Kabanpe, Kananto and Langantri.
The people of Damongo have since last Sunday been monitoring this serious radio banter between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a weekly radio program on a Damongo Community Radio station called PAD FM.
The programme, which hosts the MP every Sunday evening via phone to speak to his constituents had the MP spoke about his efforts to extend electricity to some parts of the constituency and this angered the NPP in the constituency to also go on air that very night, according to them, to set the records straight.
Mr Kweku Alhassan, a member of the NPP Communication team in Damongo Constituency explained how Mr Abu Jinapor is making efforts to extend electricity to communities the Damongo MP mentioned and that the MP was peddling falsehood.
He told listeners of the programme how Abu Jinapor voluntarily offered his car to transport transformers to those areas including Kabampe.
Kweku Alhassan accused the MP of leaning on former President Mahama’s achievements and challeged him to mention one single developmental achievement in his days as the DCE to his present day two term in office as the MP.
But the Communication officer for the NDC in Damongo Constituency, Mumuni Yahaya aka Kiyoyo and the aide of the MP Issifu Seidu Kudus also went on air the following day to clarify the allegations of the NPP Communicator.
Mr Kudus told listeners to ignore the NPP and their lies since the Rural Electrification Programme has been there before the NPP came into office.
He took listeners through how the programme started and the villages that were connected under the programme and those that were to benefit before the NDC government left power.
The debate became muddy when NDC Communication Officer referred to the Deputy Chief of Staff Abu Jinapor as an alien to the Damongo Constituency who has never voted in the Damongo Constituency and reminded listeners to remember how a musician A Plus and Kennedy Agyapong made it clear to the whole world how he Abu Jinapor makes his money that he is splashing in the area.
He further told listeners how Abu Jinapor feeds his communicators with stolen rice and that the MP for Damongo Mr Adam Mutawakilu Garlus will beat Abu Jinapor in any election any day any time.
He said the Dampngo MP who doubles as the minority spokes person on Energy is behind the electrification project which Abu Jinapor is trying to claim credit for even though he knows nothing about it.
Abu Jinapor was called two days ago on Damongo based PAD FM to tell the Damongo Constituency what he knows about the project.
He said all that he seeks is to help his people in terms of development and not to take glory of what he is doing in the Constituency and that the MP for Damongo knows that he is behind the electrification project.
Mr Abu Jinapor told listeners that he forwarded a letter signed by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for West Gonja to the then Minister of Energy Mr Boakye Agyarko for work to commence in the communities.
The Deputy Chief of Staff said the MP for Damongo as the ranking member on energy for now can not do anything since his common fund can never undertake any rural electrification project.
He stated that he personally handed his vehicle to transport the transformers to the communities.
The MP for Damongo Mr Adam Mutawakilu Garlus got hooked up on air last night to speak to that same issue. On his part, he dared the NPP to mention a single community that they have extended electricity to aside what was started under the NDC.
He said the materials that are to be used for the rural electrification project started arriving in the country during the NDC reign whilst pegging and digging of holes to mount the poles are ongoing in communities like Broto.
The MP took time to explain how the project is being carried out to listeners and stated that any individual in NPP can help to fast track the process because they are in power but NPP is not responsible for the rural electrification project.
