AfDB Gives US$50,000 For Northern Dev’t Bank

Tamale, Ghana – The Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), Dr. Abdul Majeed Haroun, has disclosed that the Northern Ecological Zone, will soon get its first-ever development bank.

According to him, the African Development Bank (AfDB) has already approved some US$50,000 dollars for the conceptualisation process to begin.

The NDA boss expressed optimism that the conceptualisation of the Northern Development Bank will be completed before December 2018.

Dr Haroun said the authority has identified some of the major challenges confronting northern Ghana and will offer the needed solutions.

He challenged Ghanaian researchers to explore avenues available in the country to help tackle the challenges, lamenting that although the Regional Centre of the FAO is in Ghana, its resources are not used.

Dr Haroun, who was addressing stakeholders at the launch of the UNDP’s second regional report for Ghana in Tamale, mentioned that there is the Technical Corporation Project, which supports researchers with US$500,000 to find solutions to agricultural challenges.

Determination in experimenting, he said, is what will help scientists achieve their goals.

The NDA CEO revealed that the authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private company to bring a development-oriented satellite channel to address the communication problems in the area.
