Tamale, Ghana – A spiritual revival inspired by praise and worship music from different artistes across different cultures is about to hit Tamale this weekend.
Dubbed “Tamale Festival of Praise”, it is a gathering of men of God, believers, church leaders and workers, choristers from selected Christian denominations and groups from different churches in the Tamale Metropolis.
The 2-day event which is being organized by Joseph Alhassan Ministries (JAM) and supported by Zebra Ice Cream would be held at the Tamale Central Assemblies of God Church on Saturday September 8 and on the last day on Sunday September 9 opposite the Sakasaka Police Station from 5pm onwards.
The festival features the best singing groups in Tamale including the Redemption Singers, Charismatic Voices, Maranatha Singers, Voice of Faith, Impact Voices, Amazing Grace Singers and Anointed Ministers.
The Director of JAM, Pastor Joseph Alhassan who is pioneering this festival, told Savannah News he was motivated to organize the event to bring together all believers and nonbelievers alike to praise and worship God in accord.
He believes the gathering of God’s children at this festival would pave the way for total peace and tranquility to prevail throughout the land of Dagbon which has been on tenterhooks for some years now despite the fact that the two main disputing factions have called a truce.
“….I want to use this festival to drum peace into the land of Dagbon. Dagbon is divided and the people of Dagbon need peace. And we the Christians need to call in peace before peace can prevail. So I’m inviting everybody to come to Tamale Festival of Praise, “Takai” praise so that we can serve God, worship God in our own culture”, he noted.
The second and last day of the festival would also feature a traditional Dagomba dance called takai. This is a dance where participants move round in a circular form while twisting their bodies in a manner that would allow their dancing costume to swing in a motion form.
According to Pastor Alhassan who is also an associate pastor of the Tamale Central Assemblies of God Church, being Christians does not necessarily mean that people should throw away the beautiful aspects of their culture which includes their dance, music, food and among others.
“On Sunday September 9 which is the last day of the event, we’re going to dance the Dagomba takai dance. We will dance, sing and praise God. Because of this, we’re inviting the Chief of Bilpiela who is a Christian to come and participate as the Guest of Honour. We’re not dancing to magnify any chief but we’re dancing to magnify the name of God”, he explained.
A popular gospel artiste himself, Pastor Alhassan would lead the opening of the event on Saturday with the support of Reverend Yabs, another renowned gospel music singer who would be the guest artiste.
He called on the residents of Tamale to come with high expectations believing God for unanswered miracles and breakthroughs in their lives.
“Tamale Festival of Praise will not a avenue for people to come and just entertain themselves and be happy. We’re all gathering to pray to God, petition God through music. And that is why people should come expecting God to do something for them, something in their lives”, he opined.
