N/R: You’re Doing Great But Continue to Work Hard – NHIA Dir. To District Managers

Tamale, Ghana – Northern Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has challenged district managers of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to work hard so that the authority can attain its regional and national targets.

In spite of the authority’s inability to fully attain its 2018 mid-year target, Issahaque Abdul-Latif commended the 20 district managers for their zeal and hard work.

Speaking at the 2018 mid-year review meeting of the NHIA held in Tamale on Thursday, he urged the managers not to despair because of the daunting challenges confronting them at their places of work.

“It is my belief and hope that we will put in more efforts in order to achieve our annual targets. Let us rise to the occasion and as leaders, don’t wait to see if anyone else is going to step up when something needs to be done. You need to be optimistic and tackle the challenges confronting us squarely. We need to be creative, innovative and be dedicated to the work”, Mr. Issahaque stressed.

The half year performance report by the NHIA Regional Director indicated that, the region achieved 82% and 57% registration of school pupils and new and old members respectively.

The NHIA also attained a 75% mobilization of its premium target and 64% of its processing fees target in the region.

Moreover, Mr. Issahaque disclosed that the NHIA’s mobile registration launched about two months ago has chalked significant success in the West Mamprusi Municipality where it is being piloted.

“Since the pilot, there has been a tremendous decrease in the number of clients who troupe to our office in West Mamprusi to renew their cards. The national plan is that, with the success of these pilots, the Authority will by the end of the year roll-out a full nationwide mobile-renewal programme”, he explained.

While assuring service providers of the Authority’s unrelenting efforts to pay them outstanding claims, he also urged them to endeavour to submit their claims early for vetting so as to get paid early and promptly.

The purpose of the mid-year meeting was for the district managers and officers at the Regional NHIA Directorate to assess their performance for the first six months of the year in the areas of membership, revenue mobilization, and governance among others in order to identify their shortfalls and collectively device strategies of meeting their annual targets.

It was also intended to enable the managers implement the NHIA measures, directives and policies to ensure compliance and the provision of quality healthcare to the Ghanaian public who are members.
