Larabanga Youth Committee Formed to End “Immoral Activities”

Larabanga, Ghana – Elders and opinion leaders in the Larabanga community in the West Gonja District of the Northern Region have formed “The Larabanga Youth Committee” to see to it that “immoral activities” which gained notoriety recently within the community are brought to an end.

Upon consultations and series of meetings and forums organised among parents, clan heads and other stakeholders, the Committee came out with some rules to govern the behaviour and lifestyle of residents.

A statement copied to the Assemblyman for Larabanga, Asani Issahaku Atiti and the District Chief Executive for West Gonja Saeed Muazu Jibreel and signed  by the Secretary of the Larabanga Youth Committee, Mr Abudu Abubakari, the Larabanga Chief Imam, Alhaji Seidu Abdulai, the Larabanga Chief Iddrisu Abu and the Larabanga Clans Head Dramani Sidiki spelt out the following rules to govern the Community.

Among others, one of the rules said “no community member should expose his or her nakedness on social media or any other medium.

“Children under age (below 18 years) will be taken on when seen at night after 12:00midnight and any community member caught having sex outside the room shall be dealt with”.

“Any form of entertainment on the 8th night of the fire festival of Larabanga is banned forever and any person found exposing his or her nakedness in a recorded video or on social media or any other medium shall be punished and the family will be charged.

“Any young lady or youngman found hanging his or her dress shall be dealt with”.
