N/R: NDC’s Aljazeera Bloodily Assaults Party Execs., Disrupts ‘Secret’ Meeting

Tamale, Ghana – The Aljazeera vigilante group linked to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, on Saturday, 3 November 2018 attacked some executives of the party and violently disrupted an ongoing meeting.

About a dozen members of the group stormed the Global Dream Hotel and destroyed furniture and other properties in the melee.

The group further assaulted the Regional Communication Officer of the party, leaving him with bloody wounds.

Class91.3FM’s Regional Correspondent, Mohammed Gadafi, reported that the vigilante group went on the rampage because its members felt the Regional Secretary, Salisu Be-Awuribe, convened the meeting without the authorisation of the Regional Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila.

The group also accosted the Regional Secretary of the party, beat him up and vandalised his car after he made an attempt to report the invasion to the leadership of the party in the region.

Mr Be-Awuribe had invited regional functional executives, Members of Parliament (MPs) of the NDC in the Northern Region and Constituency representatives, to the meeting a day before.

However, the Regional Chairman issued a counter-directive that he had not “directed the Regional Secretary or received any request from members of the REC for any meeting whatsoever”.

He, therefore, warned members of the party against attending the said meeting, which he described as “illegal”, as it will amount to “gross insubordination towards my authority as your elected Regional Chairman”.

The clashes have been attributed to a seeming festering rift between the Regional Secretary and the Regional Chairman.
