Saboba: 21 Farmers Honoured at Farmers Day Celebration

Saboba, Ghana – District Chief Executive for Saboba in the Northern Region of Ghana has urged farmers in the area to continue to work hard to increase yield so that they will become food sufficient.

According to George Bingrini Kitingyaab, government is committed to help farmers in the country to boost food production so that they become affordable for citizens to buy for consumption.

He cited the planting for food and jobs campaign which comes with fertilizer and chemical subsidy, one district one warehouse and the one village one dam initiatives as measures being put in place by the government of President Nana Akufo-Addo to make it possible for the Ghanaian farmer to attain the desired results in his/her farming business.

Mr. Kitingyaab made these statements when he joined the chief and people of Lifur in the Saboba District to celebrate the 34th National Farmers Day.

Under the theme: “Agriculture; Moving Ghana Beyond Aid”, the annual event which is observed by all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country brought together different types of farmers, dealers of farm inputs and equipment, farmer based organizations and citizens.

“The theme is in line with His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo’s transformational agenda which seeks to pursue measures that will bridge the gap between Ghana’s food and cash crop production and consumption levels.

“The theme could not have come at any other time than now because government is trying to make the country self-sufficient in food production and reduce the import rate of the country. Government’s policy in making food available to Ghanaians has been designed to encourage all citizens to take up farming as a full or part time activity”, the Saboba DCE emphasized.

In all, 21 gallant farmers made up of 17 male and 4 female farmers took home various awards including GTP wax prints, cutlasses, wellington boots, bicycles, water cans, sacks and motor bikes.

The overall District Best Farmer took home a Motor King Tricycle with assorted prizes.
