Damongo, Ghana – The Linguist of the Palace of the Overlord and King of Gonja called Alhaji Afuli Losina has said that he is still at post discharging his traditional duties as the linguist of Yagbonwura and therefore entreated the people of Gonjaland to disregard a rife rumour that he has been sacked.
Alhaji Afuli said it is only the Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa who can ban him from the Palace but he currently has a good rapport with the King of Gonja Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa and that the Yagbonwura has absolute confidence in him.
Alhaji Afuli said the position of linguist of the Jakpa (Yagbonwura’s) Palace is not a government position but a traditional one and so a letter from the Gonjaland Youth Association cannot remove him from his position as linguist.
Alhaji Afuli said the Gonjaland Youth Association did not write a letter for him to be chosen as linguist of the Yagbonwura many years ago and so a letter from the Association cannot remove from office.
Alhaji Afuli told Nkilgi FM at Bole that it is only crazy members of the Gonjaland Youth Association who will get themselves involved in traditional matters because the Gonjaland Youth Association is not part of the traditional set up of Gonjaland.
The Gonjaland Youth Association has written a letter to the Yagbonwura a stating that most of the Chieftaincy problems in Gonjaland were mostly influenced by the Chief Linguist Alhaji Afuli Losina and not the Gonja Traditional Council.
The Association said it is clear that the Chief Linguist, Alhaji Afuli Losina is at the center of all controversies which have hugely embarrassed, denigrated the King and created acrimony, discord and insecurity in the view of members and the general Ghanaian public and in the light of all issues, unanimously resolved at the just ended Central Committee Meeting held on the 10th of November, 2018 that the Gonja Traditional Council should immediately take steps to replace Alhaji Afuli Losina as Chief Linguist of the Gonja Traditional Council (Jakpa Palace) in order to redeem our King and prevent any further embarrassment to the Council.
The Gonjaland Youth Association said the actions of the Linguist of the Yagbonwura Alhaji Afuli has the overall effect of breeding general apathy, acrimony, disrepute, insecurity and loss of respect for our Traditional Council and its President and that there is also a growing hopelessness and fear of future escalations of violence, among the youth.
Alhaji Afuli Losina 61 years, became the Chief Linguist during the reign of Yagbonwura Timu from Kpembe and served all the Yagbonwura’s after Timu and still serving the current King of Gonja, Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I.
