Tamale, Ghana – Members of the NPP Progressive Ladies in Tamale are feeling despondent and neglected by the partys Regional Executives and other government functionaries, that is according to the President of the group, Andaratu Mumuni.
Ever since the current Northern Regional Executives were elected into office a couple of months ago, Madam Andaratu said with the exception of the Regional Womens Organiser, all the others have made it their habit not to answer calls or reply text messages from party members who have concerns and want them to be addressed.
Expressing her disquiet about the sudden change of attitude of the party executives to Savannah News on Friday December 7, 2018, she said “you can call any of the regional executives many times and they will not answer. You send them a text message, they wont reply. When you go to them they ignore you. Its only the womens organizer that is very receptive. They are unreachable now that they have power.”
When asked what could be the reason why the party executives are shunning her group and others in the party, she said “they probably think that whenever a party youth is calling any of them its all about money. Its not all the time that we want money from them.
“Were a recognized group within the party structures and we go out to campaign and do things in the name of the party just because we want the party to retain power in 2020. So if leadership of NPP Progressive Ladies is calling you and you refuse to answer, they come to meet you and you ignore them, then why were you voted into office in the first place?
“Myself and other members of NPP Progressive Ladies have sacrificed for this party. During the last election I was heavily pregnant and yet I went out and campaigned with my colleagues for the party to win power. And now that were in power, the executives dont want to meet us whenever we call them”, Madam Andaratu lamented.
Drawing comparisons between the old and current executives, the President of the NPP Progressive Ladies said the Daniel Bugri Naabu led executives were very much receptive and helpful compared to the Chairman Samba led executives.
“Chairman Bugri Naabu and his group were not perfect but no matter what they were always there for us whenever we wanted to meet any of them. We were not suffering like we are now under chairman Samba”, she indicated.
Madam Andaratu Mumuni implored the Northern Regional Executives to make time to meet individuals and groups in the party and listen to their concerns “after all, you were elected for all members of the party and not some selective group who are your favourites.”
