Damongo, Ghana – A former Northern Regional Chairman aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Prince Gbanso Busunu, was on Saturday arrested by a combined team of police and military for attempting to lead a demonstration.
Prince Gbanso was arrested after information had gone viral that he was organising and leading a demonstration against his party’s leadership for denying a party executive an appointment and giving it to an outsider from a different constituency.
Bole based Nkilgi FM spoke to Prince Gbanso and he explained that the Manager of National Health Insurance Scheme for West Gonja District, John Kipo Kara is due for retirement this year and a vacancy is therefore created in that office.
Prince Gbanso told Nkilgi Fm that they and other NPP activists got information that one Abu Kamara has been employed to fill that vacancy which was initially earmarked for Mr Inusah Sumani, a constituency executive in Damongo.
This generated a WhatsApp banter on an NPP platform and he Prince Gbanso and a group of NPP members threatened to hit the streets on Saturday.
Gbanso told Nkilgi Fm this was not the first time the party is bringing an outsider to fill a vacant position in the Damongo constituency citing MASLOC and NABCO as examples that saw unknown persons now in those positions.
He explained that they are politicians and no politician take his reward at heaven but on earth.
He also said party politics is not daily affair in which someone think he can use his influence to sort out family members.
Prince Gbanso therefore tied his car in red bands and drove through the principal streets of Damongo.
Prince Gbanso was later rounded up by police and military men numbering up to 30 at an area called “Seven Seven junction” in Damongo.
Prince Gbanso has since been granted bail and discharged after interrogation with his statement taken.
