I have always been giving early warning signals on Chieftaincy controversies in the Gonja Kingdom. My warning signals on the Bole Chieftaincy controversy were ignored not even when I said shooting will take place a day before it actually happened.
Now the signal I’m picking is that another Chieftaincy controversy is brewing in the Wasipe (Daboya) Traditional Area of the Gonja Kingdom.
The Wasipe Traditional Area of Gonja has enjoyed total peace the past two decades and we all have a duty to ensure Wasipe (Dabotya) do not to explode over the Yazori skin which is the entry skin to the Wasipe (Daboya) skin or paramountcy.
Indeed the Wasipe Traditional Area has two major gates, that is the Hanga and the Tampulma gates and each of these two major gates have sub-gates that rotate within the major gates.
The immediate late Yazoriwura Dambol was from the Tampulma major gate and the Aseipe sub- gate of the Tampulma gate.
By the arrangement of Wasipe, the Tampulma major gate has three sub-gates which are, the Aseipe, Takorape and Kankranfope.
Another arrangement of Wasipe is that the Yazori skin remains with any gate occupying it until a Chief from the gate proceeds to the Wasipe paramountcy.
The immediate late Yazoriwura Dambol was from the Aseipe sub-gate and so the internal arrangement of the Tampulma major gate is that the Yazori skin goes to either the Takorope or Kankranfope sub- gates.
The Tampulma gate seem to have settled on the Kankranfope sub-gate which has not ascended the Wasipe skin the past 100 years.
History says the last Wasipewura from Kankranfope sub-gate set gunpowder at his Palace which exploded killing him, his people and Asantes at his Palace after the Asantes who were the strongest ethnic group on those days invaded Wasipe (Daboya) for slaves. The incident ended Asante slave raiding in the Wasipe Traditional Area.
Unconfirmed information say the present Paramount Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area, Wasipewura Mumuni Anyame Kabasagya was consulted indoors and he seem ready to endorse the Kankranfope sub-gate of the Tampulma major gate. Some members of the Kankranfope sub-gate have settled on Sekpegewura Iddrisu a decison that was to be endorsed by the Wasipewura last week but was put on hold because of a stakeholders meeting on the Savannah Region.
However snipets of information to me say a prominent Chief in the Gonja Kingdom has today invited the Chief linguist of Daboya, a linguist from the Wasipewura Palace, a direct brother of the Wasipewura called Chief Mablowura Adam and the linguist of the Yagbonwura Alhaji Afuli to allegedly change the internal arrangement of the Tampulma gate that was to be endorsed by the Wasipewura.
It is rumoured Kunkonwura Nyankpani (father of Mr Adams Nyankpani) from the same Aseipe like the immediate late Yazoriwura Dambol will be suggested for the Tampulma major gate. The argument is that anyone from the Tampulma major gate can be chosen to occupy the Yazori skin.
Daboya is becoming tensed as I write.
I don’t intend to cause confusion but to let the people of Gonjaland know all is not well at the Wasipe Traditional Area. We are tired of all these Chieftaincy confusion in Gonjaland.
I am from Gonjaland and want peace in Gonjaland. I will continue with my early warning signals.
