Tamale, Ghana – President of the Northern Drama and Film Makers Association (NORDRAFIM), Alhassan Yushawu Jahanfo, has expressed the gratitude of actors, film producers and marketers in the Northern Region to MTN Ghana, for supporting the Ghanaian movie industry to grow and become more profitable.
He said Ghanaian actors, film producers and marketers would continue to recognize the efforts of stakeholders particularly the government, private individuals and corporate organisations like MTN Ghana who are making significant investments towards the growth and profitability of the movie industry.
Speaking to Savannahnewsonline.com on the sidelines of MTN Ghana’s “Open Coffee” event held in Tamale on Thursday, Mr. Jahanfo urged the telecommunication company to continue to support the movie industry and its actors so that other organisations would see and be motivated to come on board.
He said for instance, the launch of MTN Shortz, a digital platform for content creators to upload and monetize their works, has come at the right time to improve upon the financial situation of those of them in the industry.
“We’re losing so much to people I’ll call criminals who hide and pirate our work. If you go on the internet, you’ll see our movies on youtube and other places being uploaded by people we don’t know and they’re enjoying whatever they gain from such activities.
“So MTN Shortz would at least give us something from this initiative they have introduced to us and we’re very grateful to them for this”, he indicated.
Mr. Jahanfo however appealed to MTN Ghana to go a step further by providing support to production houses to acquire high-grade equipment which they need to improve upon the quality of their work.
Open Coffee sought to create awareness about MTN Shortz among movie actors, producers and marketers based in the Northern sector as well as build their capacity on Ghana’s copyrights law.
Senior Manager in charge of products and services at MTN Ghana, Bless Sefenu Agordjo, the event also sought to build the capacity of participants in script writing, video directing and cinematography among others.
He expressed excitement over the massive attendance registered at the programme and hoped the excitement he saw in the participants would translate into high subscription for MTN Shortz in the Northern Sector.
The event, which was well attended and exceeded the expectation of the organisers, is a precursor to MTN Digital Music Conference, another initiative due to take place on Friday January 25, 2019 at the Radach Lodge and Conference Centre in Tamale.
