Let’s Collaborate For a Better Ghana Music Industry – MTN to Musicians

Tamale, Ghana – General Manager in charge of products and services at MTN Ghana, Bless Sefenu Agordjo, has reiterated his appeal to Ghanaian musicians, producers and composers to collaborate with the telecom company to market their products in order to rake in enough revenue for them.

According to him, the company has developed digital platforms for players in the music industry as well as those in the movie industry to upload their contents for access to consumers who are willing to pay for them.

“It is critical to utilize the convenience that digital music provides. Let’s work hand in hand in harnessing the benefit of digital technology to transform lives and help leapfrog the fortunes of the Ghanaian music industry and particularly that of the Northern music”, he said this at the maiden MTN Ghana Digital Music Conference held in Tamale last Friday.

“For us at MTN, we are ready to support and move Ghana music forward in every way within our means…… One of such initiatives is the MTN Shortz. MTN Shortz has provided opportunity for many to upload and share their content while being economically empowered”, Mr. Agordjo indicated.

The one-day conference among other things, created a platform for players in the music industry to study and understand the nascent opportunities in the emerging market segments around the world.

It created awareness on the various digital channels available for musicians, producers and record labels to take advantage of and market their products.

It also brought resource persons in the digital space to guide musicians to make informed decisions on the type of digital platform that is good for their trade.

The conference brought together old and younger generation of musicians including Sheriff Ghale, Prince Mahama, Jamal Bamba, Kawa Stone, Deensi and George Cliff among others.

Mr. Sheriff Ghale, a former reggae musician during an experience sharing session, urged the younger musicians to embrace the opportunity offered to them by MTN Ghana.

In his view, the only profitable means to sell music now is through the internet and what MTN Ghana is offering to Ghanaian musicians help their career progression.

He also pointed out that, as musicians they need to constantly educate themselves on the things they have no knowledge of in order to brand themselves well as artists.

“I have been on music break since 2007 but you can still fine my music everywhere. Your talent alone will not take you far, you need to be educated because you also need language to communicate. Seek guidance from experts and experienced hands in the industry so you can learn new things”, he noted.
