Damongo, Ghana – The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional area, Buipewura Mahama Abdulai Jinapor (Il) has sent a message through the Minister of Regional integration Dan Kweku Botwe to Preaident Nana Akufo- Addo to maintain the Savannah Regional capital in Damongo.

Speaking at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo during a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura by Mr. Dan Botwe on Wednesday, Chief Jinapor who doubles as the Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council responded to the Minister who in his address told the Yagbonwura and the entire Gonjaland that it is only the President of Ghana who can decide where the capital of the newly created regions should be after the Overlord of Gonja Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa reminded Dan Botwe to make Damongo the Capital of the Savanna Region.

Buipewura who reminded the Minister of their closed door meetings and the several calls he made to him to make Damongo the capital warned that Nana Addo will do himself a great disservice by changing the capital which the Chiefs across the seven paramouncies had settled on Damongo.

Buipewura told Jon Dan Botwe to inform the President that it is mischievous on the part of any Gonja who says the capital should be sent somewhere.

Buipewura assured the President that no chief from Gonjaland will attend any meeting in the Savannah Regional capital if not Damongo.

Mr Botwe thanked the people of Gonjaland for voting massively during the referendum and used the opportunity to formally invite Yagbonwura to the flagstaff on the 12th February 2019 to meet the President who will officially announce the capital and make the newly created regions operational.

Accompanying the Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development Dan Botwe into the Palace of the Yagbonwura included the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, DCEs in Gonjaland and the MP for Salaga South Adam Salifu Braimah.

Paramount chiefs across the seven paramouncies with the exception of the Kpembewura were fully represented in the meeting.
