Tuna: John Mahama’s Brother Enskinned Chief of Tuna

Tunawura Buabreso

Tuna, Ghana – A brother of former President John Dramani Mahama and former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sawla-Kalba-Tuna, Alhaji Isaac Mumuni Dramani has been enskined as Tunawura Buabreso of the Bole Traditional area.

The series of traditional events started with a Damba Dance and enskinment ceremony on Sunday 17th February, 2019 with the outdooring taking place this morning at Bole, the capital of the Bole Traditional area of the Gonja Kingdom.

The relatively young Tunawura Dramani Buabreso will move to his town of Tuna tomorrow Tuesday 19th February, 2019 and is expected to be accompanied by about a thousand people.

The former President’s immediate family have consistently rejected Chieftaincy titles under a number of Paramount Chiefs of the Bole Traditional area even though they are royals from the Kotobiri sub- gate of the Jagape gate of Bole. The enskinment of Tunawura Dramani Buabreso is seen by Traditional Chieftaincy pundits as luring the immediate family of former President John Dramani Mahama into the Chieftaincy system of the Bole Traditional area. The enskined Tunawura Dramani bears the same name (Dramani) as former President. They were both named after their grandfather who was a prominent Chief in the Bole Traditional area.

Even though E.A. Mahama (father of former President Mahama) who served as MP of Western Gonja from 1954 to 1966 and also served as the first Northern Regional Commissioner under Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s government; Parliamentary Secretary and a Minister of Animal Husbandry was a royal of the Bole Bole Traditional area comes from a royal family, he decided not to take any traditional chieftaincy title after several overtures (especially after Kwame Nkrumah’s government was overthrown).

The family insisted that E.A. Mahama was a royal and therefore enskinned him Zenpewura (Chief of Zenpe) posthumously, that is shortly after his death on 14th June 2001. His enskinment took place before his burial on Friday 22nd June, 2001 at his hometown of Bole.
