Damongo, Ghana – The Member of Parliament(MP) for Damongo constituency, Adam Mutawakilu Galus has reiterated his commitment at helping to improve education in his constituency at all cost.
Mr. Adam disclosed that his office has secured five(5) more slots for students studying natural sciences at the various tertiary institutions in the country.
He said that by the close of the next academic year, those who will gain admission to study natural sciences will benefit from his outfit with full scholarship package. This he said will put the number to ten (10).
“I’m happy to inform you that five students are currently benefiting from the office of the MP, a fully funded scholarship secured from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
“Those studying to acquire degree are receiving nine thousand Ghana cedis annually (GHC9,000), whilst those on Masters degree get twelve thousand Ghana cedis(12,000) and those on PhD level receive fifteen thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc15,000)”.
Mr Adam Mutawakilu made this known at the 7th Independence Day Spelling B competition among Junior High Schools in the Damongo constituency of the Savannah Region.
The MP who has been a major sponsor of the competition for the last five years, expressed his heartfelt thanks to the organizers of the competition, Royals Club for their consistent efforts in helping to improve the standards of education in the district.
He urged the students to take their education serious, as it is the only tool that provides them with brighter future.
“For the past five years, I have been sponsoring this competition because of its importance towards your future. Education is the backbone of the world today. It is the most important thing that will prepare you well today for a better future”.
He added that CAMFED annually benefit from his office with five thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc5,000).
The MP has been supporting students from the various tertiary institutions, ranging from the Teacher College of Education, Technical Universities and Universities across the country.
On a request made by the Patron of the Royals Club, Mr Kipo John Kara, the Hon MP said he will discuss with the leadership of Royals Club to find a way to give television coverage to the future Spelling B competitions in the constituency.
He thanked the constituents for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work extra hard to help improve education and its related activities.
He also thanked the GES, teachers, students and all stakeholders for their hard work towards getting the best for the children.
The Deputy Chief Director of Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice(CHRAJ), Chief Tolondopewura Ahmed Monor, who was Guest speaker, said that today’s generation was very lucky to have almost everything available to help them learn better and become responsible adults.
He recounted how past students depended on lanterns and other improvised ways to succeed in their education.
The administrator advised the students to embrace technology in their education plans.
“Education today moves alongside with technology. Take both serious to get the best of modern education.The best asset your parents can give you is befitting educational life and I want to tell you to take your learning activities serious. This is the best opportunity for you to turn up your life and become who you dream to be in future”.
An assistant Headmaster in charge of domestic affairs at the Damongo Senior High School (DASS), Mr Seidu Ayuba thanked the teachers for guiding the students with needed skills and leadership qualities.
He urged the students to read as much as they can, because there was joy in reading.
“Learn with keen interest the pronunciation, spellings of words and ask questions for clarity. This will make you and your teachers proud”.
He thanked Royals Club for the powerful initiative and added that the competition was like an in-service training to the general public.
Attending the competition for the first time, Mr Ayuba promised that by next year, the cost of the program will not solely be born by the MP for the constituency. He indicated that, he will source for support to help keep the program alive.
The Patron of the club, Mr Kipo John Kara, NHIS Director for West Gonja, advised the children to study hard so that they will be able to take up the management of Ghana in the near future.
The President of Royals Club, Mr. Issahak Joshua Kotochi said he was happy to see the progress made so far by the club in helping to improve education around the area.
He charged the students to take the competition serious as it offers them the opportunity to learn words, their origin and meanings and other related activities in education.
Ms Alijata Haruna chaired the occasion.
Congratulating the winners for their hardwork, she challenged all to remain discipline and learn more to achieve their ambitions in life.
She encouraged the girls to match the boys ‘boot for boot’ in the academic world because it is strongly believed that what men can do, women can equally do it.
She thanked all stakeholders for their hard work towards getting a better future for the children.
At the end of the competition, Bibiebome Mavis won the ultimate prize. The Girls Model students spelt better with the right confidence to beat her colleagues.
First runner up went to Issahaku Abdul Latif from Presbyterian JHS B, whilst Osman Araimah of New Life International school won the bronze.
Each of the participants received awards including Books and dictionary from the organizers.
The first three will receive their awards at the parade grounds, Damongo town park on Wednesday 6th March 2019.
