Tamale, Ghana – In the coming years, boxing contests would be held all over the Northern Regional capital Tamale courtesy the McDan Amateur Boxing competition project.
The McDan Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Federation relaunched the first amateur boxing competition on March 6, 2019.
Ten amateur boxers faced-off at the Tamale Jubilee Park as part of activities marking Ghana’s 62nd Independence Anniversary.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the McDan Group of Companies, Gubgbaa-Naa Daniel McKorley in a brief speech said, “We are going to produce world champions from here.”
“I will make available enough resources to support the youth of the north.”
The Gubgbaa-Naa promised to build a permanent boxing gym in Tamale.
President of Ghana’s Boxing Federation, George Lamptey remarked that, “The Federation will give the project the necessary attention to succeed.”
“We need champions from the Northern Region for the 2019 African games and the Japan 2020 world games.”
A cross section of Tamale residents have lauded the initiative since boxing is a lesser known sporting event in the Northern Region.
Producers of Verna mineral water and Rasta malt drink and Graphic Communications Group are the sponsors.
