Tamale: Marry More Wives And Fill Savannah Region – GLYA Secretary to Gonja Men

Tamale, Ghana – The Secretary of the Tamale branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) Mr Ibraihim Napadow has charged Gonjas to marry each other to increase in population.

Mr Ibraihim Napadow entreated every man from the Savannah Region to marry more than one wife.

He said, “We need the numbers to fill the vast land of Savannah Region. In the next 20 to 30 years if care is not taking Gonjas may fall as a minority tribe even in the Savannah Region”.

Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm, Mr Ibraihim Napadow explained that Gonja men are mostly content with a single wife with few children while Gonja women are beginning to hate polygamy.

The Secretary of the Tamale branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association said the Savannah Region is the largest in the country but least populated.

He said policy makers will often take into consideration population and that the only way an ethnic group can become more powerful and more recognised is through population.

According to Napadow, “Chieftaincy is about people” and that before the Gonja Chieftaincy institution can become strong and more recognised then Gonjas must take steps to give birth to more children.
