S/R: Accept The Final Decision of Commitee to Resolve Chieftaincy Disputes in Gonjaland – Buipewura

Buipe, Ghana – The Vice President of the Gonja Traditional Council, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor (II) has entreated all gates, ascending skins in Gonjaland especially those with Chieftaincy misunderstanding such as Sonyor, Bole, Damongo, Kafaaba, Kabilma and Kilibu (Makango) to cooperate with the resolutions that a Committee selected to resolve all Chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland would come up with.

Speaking at a stakeholder Consultative meeting at Kpembe/Salaga to discuss Chieftaincy issues within the Gonja Traditional Area and how to resolve them for a peaceful take off of the Savannah Region on Saturday 13th April, 2019, the Buipewura said it is the responsibility of the Chieftaincy institution in Gonjaland to resolve all Chieftaincy related conflicts and that any party that resist the verdict of the Committee would be presumed as fighting the whole Gonja Kingdom and the necessary steps would be taken against the person.

Five Eminent Chiefs of Gonjaland;
the Buipewura, Kongwura, Kpembewura, Tuluwewura and Kusawguwura were selected to settle Chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland but before that an opinion question was thrown to several Gonja clans to answer and the question was; “If you were the Yagbonwura today and there are Chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland, what would you have done?”.

Even though majority said the Yagbonwura was the King and Overlord of Gonja and so his decisions were final, others also had the view that, the Kingmakers of Gonja were being manipulated by politicians with others playing their personal interest in resolving conflicts in Gonjaland.

The Savannah Regional Minister, Salifu Adam Braimah, who spoke on the malignant issues of Conflict in Gonjaland, said the Committee would ensure no one plunged Gonjaland into a hub of unresolved conflicts as far as the government had their back.

He cited a situation last Friday night when some Gonjas and Mamprusis were planning to fight due to the enskinement of a certain Chief by the Mamprusis in a Gonja village and that he will meet Nayiri yesterday Sunday to thrash the issue out.

Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, former Minister for Agriculture under former President John Dramani Mahama’s government also told the committee to make sure they do not take their decisions with favour but look straight in the peoples eye and tell them the truth to ensure peace.

Kpembewura Haruna Bismark Banbanga in his welcome address said they will resolve all Chieftaincy conflicts in Gonjaland but pleaded with those who will lose their cases to cooperate with the winners for peace and tranquility.

Other speakers at the meeting included Lepowura MND Jawula, Dr Clifford Braimah and Dr Sulemana Achanso.
