S/R: Logging, Chieftaincy Main Security Issues Confronting New Region – Minister

Damongo, Ghana – The Minister of the Savannah Region Hon Adam Salifu Braimah has disclosed that the Savannah Regional co-ordinating Council has set up a nine member Committee which will go to the root course of the issue of logging so that it will be tackled once for all.

Speaking at the 43rd annual Gonjaland Youth Association meeting held in Damongo and covered by Bole based Nkilgi FM at the weekend, the soft spoken Regional Minister mentioned two security issues bedevilling the Savannah Region.

He said; “Gonjaland has two main security issues for now; that is the issue of Chieftaincy disputes and for a good gesture for the creation of the Savannah Region the Chiefs themselves have taken it upon themselves to solve all Chieftaincy disputes in Gonjaland. The issue of Rosewood logging didn’t start today but we now have to tackle it head on and I call on the support of the Gonjaland Youth Association to resolution of this rosewood issue”.

The Minister said the day for the Congress was historic because it was taking place at Damongo as a Regional capital with the attendance of prominent individuals across Gonjaland including former President John Dramani Mahama.

He said the theme of the Gonjaland Youth Association Congress; “Promoting Peace and Unity in Diversity for Accelerated Development of Savannah Region; the Role of the Youth” could not have been at a better time than now since the Savannah Region is the exact definition of the team.

Adam Salifu Braimah said the Savannah Region is made of different ethnic groups and the people of the Region need to uphold peace among themselves for Accelerated development.

He said President Nana Akufo-Addo granted the request by the Chiefs and people of the area for the creation of the Savannah Region in order to bring governance closer to the people and so the people cannot leave as fragmented individuals.

The Savannah Regional Minister explained;
“We now have our own Savannah Region. We now have the opportunity to manage our own affairs. We from Gonjaland thank the President Nana Akufo-Addo for his boldness in creating six Regions of which Savannah Region is one. For over fourty years our forefathers have been fighting for this opportunity”.

He also took the opportunity to inform the people that the President will be visiting the Savannah Region between the 17th and 18th of May, 2019 and he expects a mammoth reception for him.

He thanked his colleague Savannah Region Members of Parliament (MP’s) and told them he will be needing their support as they have in parliament so they can develop the Savannah Region.

He congratulated the Yagbonwura for the Honourary award given him.

On developmental issues, the Savannah Regional Minister said government is working feverishly to get water to Damongo as soon as practicable.

He said the Busunu-Daboya Mankarigu is on the hydro phase 2 which will take off in June, 2019.

He said government will treat everybody and that without NDC and NPP cooperation there wouldn’t have gotten the percentages they got for the creation of the Savannah Region.
