2019 MTN Y’ello Care: 50 Tamale Youth Given Skills in Digital Marketing, Beads Making

Tamale, Ghana – A skills development programme jointly organised by MTN Ghana and the National Youth Authority (NYA) for some 50 people in Tamale has ended with assurance to the youth that government was far advanced with plans to provide more skills training to those who are interested in venturing into entrepreneurship.

According to Deputy CEO of the NYA in charge of operations and programmes, Bright Asamoah, it is far more rewarding to provide skills training to young people compared to providing them with jobs.

“When government gives you a job it is a job that the government can take but when the government gives you a skill it is a skill that the government can never take…..So this is just a pilot with MTN…. the real one is in the offing”, Mr. Asamoah told journalists in an interview after a brief ceremony organized in Tamale to bring to a close MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.

MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care is a community service initiative by staff of the telecom company to provide any type of social services to a community of their choice between June 1ST and June 21st each year.

During this period of the year, staff of MTN can choose to undertake any social activity under any of the company’s flagship corporate social responsibility priority areas; health, education or economic empowerment.

Thus, for three solid weeks, 50 youth from the Tamale Metropolis were given skills training on cosmetology, beads making, makeup, manicure, pedicure and digital marketing.

Northern Sector Manager of MTN Ghana in charge of branches Kwami Aseye, said as part of the programme, staff of the Tamale office also donated some items to inmates of the Yendi Local Prisons.

He urged the 50 beneficiaries to take the training given to them seriously by exploring the many opportunities within their communities so that they can make meaning impact in their own lives and the lives of others.
