Let us modify some of our Cultural practices- Savannah Regional Minister

Damongo, Ghana – Savannah Regional Minister, Hon Salifu Braimah has advised the people of Gonjaland to take appropriate steps in performing some of the customs and traditions of the land without infringing and stepping on the toes of other persons on the land.

Speaking at a reception in honour of senior citizens to mark Senior Citizens day held in Damongo on tuTuesday 1st July, 209, Hon Salifu Braimah pleaded with the custodians of the land to always make sure the take all the appropriate steps in collecting royalties from settlers during the performance of rites and customs of the land.

He said we are in global world today that requires some aspects of our tradition to be modernised.

The Minister used the forceful way of catching fowls in some communities needs to be done in a way that will not create confusion on the land. He suggested that chiefs and the traditional people in the various areas should be pre-informed a week or 3 days to the celebration for them to willingly make the fowls available instead of the old practice of entering into the communities to catch the fowls.

The Deputy Savannah Regional Minister Mr Samuel Yeyu Tikah on his part also urged the pensioneers to use their experience by stretching their hands to our traditional leaders to end the various chieftaincy issues in the region.

Mr Tikah said the chieftaincy issues in the region affects development and pleaded for an end to the issues to pave the way for the growth of the new region.

Certificates of honour were given to the pensioners who came from across the Savannah region.
