UW/R: Women Still Lag Behind in Decision Making – Dr. Salih

Wa, Ghana – The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has observed with great concern that women and children are lagging behind in decision making and development in the Upper West Region.

The Minister assured the Regional Coordinating Council’s readiness in bringing development and prosperity to enhance the living standards of women and children in the region.

Dr. Bin Salih made this observation when the leadership of Network for Young Women Empowerment (NYWE) called on him on Friday to announce their existence in the region and brief him on their activities.

“As we march forward, we realized that our women and children are lagging behind and any group that is willing and ready to bring them up, the RCC is read to partner such a group” he noted.

The Minister expressed his wish to see women and children growth in the upper west region. He called on women in the region to aspire higher in order to occupy higher positions in the region and the country at large.

“As you can see from the list of Regional Ministers, the region produced, we are yet to see a female Regional Minister” he indicated.

According to him, he would be a happy man if one day a woman rises to occupy the position of Regional Minister in the Upper West Region.

The chairperson of NYW , Ida T. Nakaar said the network is an advocacy group which consists of young women from different professional background.

She noted that the membership includes journalists, students, police, dressmakers and beauticians.

Ms Ida said the network has collaborators in the discharge of its programmes such as Plan International Ghana, National Youth Authority, Department of Children, Department of Women, Queen Mothers of Upper West Region and Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The network also used the opportunity to announce its upcoming programme called ‘Girls Get Equal’ and seeks for the RCC.

On behalf of the RCC, the Minister assured that the network have their support in all its activities and programmes.
