USAID/GHS Collaborate to Promote NHIS Educational Messages

Accra, Ghana – Ghana’s National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) continues to dominate the global health community as an outstanding model for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa.

It is against this backdrop that some Development Partners (DP’s) in the health sector are liaising with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to promote the Scheme’s tailored educational messages.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and other allies assisted by some senior officials from the Corporate Affairs Directorate of the NHIA embarked on a regional tour.

The essence was to publicize a new program dubbed, “GoodLife Roll Show” to stakeholders in some selected regions.

The NHIA’s Deputy Director Marketing, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah led the team to the Volta and Greater Accra Regions while the Call Centre Manager, Mrs. Hannatu Mustapha Adams team visited the Northern Region.

Manager-Client Relations, Eric Boadi-Afoakwa’s team engaged stakeholders in the Central and Western Regions.

The two-day regional stakeholder engagements were from Thursday October 24 to Friday 25, 2019.

The GoodLife Roll Show is a collection of SBCC materials in video and still formats produced by USAID projects and other partner organizations including the NHIA, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, JICA, DFID, and the BCS project of the Ghana Health Service.

The roll shows are to reinforce GoodLife messages in health facilities for which reason all stakeholders in the health sector are expected to ensure the initiative’s attainment.

This initiative seeks to strengthen education, sensitization and uptake of health behaviors for improved health among target populations.

It is to provide opportunities to engage clients in waiting rooms of health facilities and Out Patient Departments (OPD) with edutainment audio visual materials on a variety of health topics.

It is also to minimize the screening of telenovelas on TV screens in waiting rooms of health facilities and Out Patient Departments whilst clients are waiting for services.

In his estimation, the NHIA’s Deputy Director Marketing, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah who led the Greater Accra and Volta Regional teams said, “This program offers an amazing opportunity for health seeking clients to obtain critical health information on healthy living.

“The collaboration will also empower NHIS members with important key information about the scheme that will enhance their knowledge and provide them with better experiences as members of the Scheme” he added.
