Tamale, Ghana – Coordinator in charge of Regional Corporate Services at MTN Ghana, Charity Darko, has told SavannahNewsOnline.Com that the telecom company would look into recent concerns expressed by the Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage on social media.
According to her, a team had already been assigned to establish contact with Madam Tangoba in order to understand clearly her concerns and see how they could be addressed.
“MTN takes the concerns and complaints of its customers seriously. And so we’re reaching out to the Upper East Regional Minister to try to understand her and see how we can address her concerns. It’s not because she is a minister but any customer who comes to us with similar or same concerns we’d definitely look into them and see how we can resolve them appropriately.
“The decision to give gifts to our customers is always taken by our marketing team. They decide who gets what and its normally airtime and birthday cakes. It also depends on how much data or airtime one consumes and so it’s not everyone who is qualified for such gift packages”, Madam Charity told SavannahNews’ Philip Liebs in an interview on Thursday.
The Upper East Regional Minister recently expressed shock that MTN Ghana would offer her just 90 minutes free airtime after 18 solid years of being their loyal customer.
According to her, 18 years ago, she had to travel all the way from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to Accra, the nation’s capital (roughly 800kms) to join a long queue at the offices of MTN just to buy a sim card.
After 18 long years of staying loyal to MTN which has gone through series of evolution, she said ‘she woke up’ recently to a text message she received from MTN supposedly congratulating her on her anniversary on the network.
The obviously dissatisfied Upper East Regional Minister in a facebook post said: “check my reward for staying loyal to mtn for 18 years! I traveled from Bolgatanga Accra, Osu to buy the mtn chip. Osu, for 380 cedis at that time (I don’t know how much that is today). Sometimes, silence is indeed gold.”
Madam Tangoba would later add in the comment section of her post: “The sickening part of it is before you blink an eye this whole thing of loyalty package is gone with the wind!#mtn smh!”.
Clearly from the post, one could tell the minister has been using her sim card since the days of Spacefon which would later ‘transform’ itself into Areeba and now MTN.

I disagree with you when you say it’s not because she is a minister, there are lots of concerns from the general public but mostly no attention is given. Even the Savannah news online.com wouldn’t have taken the story if it wasn’t a minister making the concern .
