North East, Ghana – The District Chief Executive for North East District Assembly in the Savannah Region, Abdullah Alhassan Iddi at the maiden edition of the Meet the Press called for accurate and balanced reporting on government’s evidence-based policies accomplished so far.
He mentioned the Free Senior High School, Planting for Food and Jobs, the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) among other pro-poor policies that he posited deserved extensive media coverage.
As a newly created district which lacks infrastructure, he said plans were afoot to fulfil the Nana Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) 2016 campaign promises to the people.
Alhassan Abdullah Iddi who doubles as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Salaga North Constituency said some deprived communities there have so far been connected to the Rural Electrification Programme.
He mentioned Lantikpa, Kidengi, Tunga, Kanakulai and Kpalayili where the residents lived over decades without electricity.
The DCE said more communities would soon be connected in line with government’s desire to achieve universal access to electricity to enhance the role of rural communities in national development.
Responding to questions, Alhassan Abdullah Iddi gave an account of gave the assurance that construction of roads will resume when the rains subside.
According to him, the District is to benefit from the Sino Hydro Road Project and anticipated that it will alleviate the plight of the people.
The North East District was carved out the then East Gonja Municipal Assembly (Salaga) in the Savannah Region.
It was among the newly created 38 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts to bring governance closer to the doorstep of citizens.
