“Rotation Nurses and Midwives Are Also Humans” – Nurse Tells Dep. Health Minister

Tamale, Ghana – A newly qualified Ghanaian nurse, Tahidu Sukuratu, has reiterated the general concerns and plight of rotation nurses and midwives in the country who have been working without pay for eight months.

She said though they were sacrificing to care for the sick at their various places of work across the country, the Ministries of Health and Finance were unsympathetic towards them but rather delighted in verbally abusing them each time they demand for what was due them as workers.

In a recent post on Facebook, Ms Tahidu lamented over the depressing situation 2018 batch of rotation nurses and midwives were going through citing instances some of them had to feed helpless patients when they themselves were equally hungry.

She asked the Deputy Minister of Health, Tina Gifty Naa Ayeley “Please why should we come begging at ministry simply because we demand our pay when the ministry rather is suppose to pay us (2018 Rotation Nurses &Midwives) on monthly basis. Please We humbly want to know if you take delight in we asking for our fair share of the National Cake (8 Months Unpaid Allowance)?”

Below is the full post:

We leave our families, travelled to unknown town, community or village simply because We promise to care for the sick no matter where we are called to serve

We serve the sick with all the skills we posses no matter their race, color, creed, political or social status sparing no effort to conserve life, alleviate pain and promote health no matter the geographical location

We care for that last stage retroviral patient whose relations have abandoned because he/she won’t make it

We feed that helpless patients yet We ourselves are hungry😔

We force a smile just to reassure that patient who looks up to the nurse or midwife like a miracle worker

We inhale the stench of faeces, clean faecal matter of that woman in labor, reasssure her because the safety of mother and baby is our priority as a Midwife till delivery is done.

Not to talk of the verbal abuse from clients and hot amniotic fluids that splashes on us when conducting delivery

Dear madam Hon Tina Gifty Naa Ayeley, I write to you to air out my worries and concerns as a citizen of our nation Ghana

Every worker deserves to be paid for the services they render

We ask to be paid because we have rendered our services to the people of Ghana and is our right to be paid not a privilege

Please why should we come begging at ministry simply because we demand our pay when the ministry rather is suppose to pay us(2018Rotation Nurses &Midwives) on monthly basis

Please We humbly want to know if you take delight in we asking for our fair share of the National Cake (8Months Unpaid Allowance)?

Lastly all We can say is that, the Ministry of health and Finance owe us and we are just demanding for our Pay for the services rendered.

Rotation Nurses and Midwives are not Beggars
Rotation Nurses and Midwives are also Ghanaian
Rotation Nurses and Midwives also have Dignity
Rotation Nurses and Midwives also have Rights
Rotation Nurses and Midwives are also Humans
Rotation Nurses and Midwives also have Bills to Pay
Rotation Nurses and Midwives also have Families to cater for
If the Ministry won’t pay us, its members should not verbally abuse us
If the ministry won’t pay us, it’s members should at least not hurt our Ego
If the ministry won’t pay us, it’s members should at least comfort us with their words and not hurt us emotionally and psychologically

Just as the Law of Gravity, Every that goes up, will surely come down
Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana please I challenge you to step up and fight for you own. I challenge you to step up and let Rotation Nurses and Midwives know their payment modes and procedures from the Ministry of Health (Ghana) & Ministry of Finance, Ghana even before rotation begins because the fustration of being unpaid allowance is unbearable.

A HUNGRY NURSE IS A POTENTIAL KILLER😔😡
