Tamale, Ghana – About 500 mass registration web station operators (MRWOs), commissioner for oaths (CFOs) and card verification officers (CVOs) recruited for the nationwide registration of the national identification cards by the National Identification Authority (NIA) have had their October and November salaries blocked, Savannah News has learned.
According to a source close this portal, there was double payment of salaries for recruits of the NIA in September resulting in the suspension of salaries of many employees in October and November.
Our source who doesn’t want to be named, said some recruits who took only what was due them in September got their October salaries whereas some others including those who took the double salaries got their October and November salaries blocked.
The source said affected recruits who did not take the double pay as well as those who took the double pay complained to management of the NIA but were only told to write to their bankers to resolve the matter.
“Specifically, those who took double pay have been asked to direct their bankers to return the remaining balance in their accounts to the Bank of Ghana whereas those who withdrew the double pay have also been asked to refund the rest of the amount unduly paid to them before they can be paid their October and November salaries”, the source explained.
But a letter written by the affected recruits on Wednesday is urging management of the NIA to endeavour to pay them before their next deployment on December 11, 2019. “We plead to indulge your office to come to our assistance before our next deployment which comes of on 11th of December”, it said.
Below is a copy of the letter:
4th December 2019
The Executive Secretary
National Identification Authority
Head Office
Dear Sir,
NON PAYMENT OF OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER , 2019 WAGES
We writing this letter in respect to non payment of our wages for the month of October and November 2019.
With respect to the double salaries and messages sent to individuals indicated that our wages for October will be forfeited if the said amount isn’t credited into our various banks. Most of us had the said amount in our accounts until October when we weren’t paid before withdrawing. It is disturbing to receive similar message for the month of November to refund the money which our banks didn’t debit before we will be paid.
The withholding of our October wages covers most of us double salaries. We therefore find it problematic for not being paid for the month of November and likely to continue even though we turned up to perform our required duties.
We the affected field officials are willing to sign agreement with our banks through to bank of Ghana to release the two salaries to our Banks and our Bankers should debit our accounts to that effects to enable us to continue receiving our wages. To refund the said amount will be difficult for us as we speak now.
We plead to indulge your office to come to our assistance before our next deployment which comes of on 11th of December.
We count on your usual cooperation.
Thank You .
