Tamale, Ghana – Vice President of the republic, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is urging the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to focus on sharing government accomplishments through new media platforms where many young people interact.
According to him, the youth vote of the party mobilized in 2016 was basically through digital media as the youth used social media to usher in a new politics which allowed people to actively take action in expanding the frontiers of democracy in Ghana.
Commending the hard work of the current leadership of the youth wing of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia said “our party has created a genuine connection between the party, its structures, the youth and their communities”.
In a felicitation message to the youth as they held their National Conference and Rally in Tamale, he said “our government is working hard to improve communities and ensure that the concerns of young people are not detached from government initiatives.
“As you take part in this conference, the ultimate aim would be to reflect the negative news that would engage the attention of young people during election 2020 while fostering genuine and sincere social engagement”, the Vice President noted.
The two day conference, which would climax tomorrow with a mammoth rally at the Tamale Jubilee Park, seeks to strategise towards election 2020 by making sure President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and for that matter the New Patriotic Party retain power in the December president and parliamentary elections.
Under theme: “One Good Term Deserves Another”, the conference has brought together all polling station, branch, constituency, regional and national youth executives, regional and national executives, parliamentary candidates and aspirants of orphaned constituencies, metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives among others.
National Youth Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye in his address to the youth said, the conference would focus on creating stronger resolutions aimed at involving the youth in the party’s quest for victory in the 2020 elections.
“This will mean chalking significant developmental success in all spheres of the society, a task I believe is not insurmountable for the youth of this party.
“Our victory in 2020 is largely dependent on the quality of effort we channel into preparations. I urge all of you to take active part in the training sessions during this conference. We will learn among other things how to approach issues, how to plan meetings and how to strategise for our impending victory”, he emphasized.
Nana Boakye urged the youth to hold one another’s hand in their march to victory 2020. “We need all hands on deck both at the individual and at the party level. The image of the party we sell to the world is a crucial determinant of our stand in the upcoming election”, he stated.
Meanwhile, about twelve leading figures of the NPP are billed to speak at the conference including Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Sports Minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Francis Asenso Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor, both Deputy Chiefs of Staff, Education Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh and Finance Minister Ken Ofori Attah.
