Tamale, Ghana – The Greater Accra Region has for the second time in two months maintained the lead as the most volatile region in Ghana; that is according to the Institute for Peace and Governance (IPEG) peace and governance index report released on Tuesday.
Closely following the Greater Accra Region is the Eastern whereas the Ahafo Region is cited as the most peaceful and incidents free region in the entire country.
Greater Accra Region is the most volatile region with 14 reported incidents compared 20 incidents recorded in the month of October whereas the Eastern Region recorded 13 incidents compared to 18 in the previous month, a statement signed by Head of Programmes, Justin Bayor explained.
Overall, a total of 70 incidents were recorded in the entire month of November. There were 43 deaths, 100 injuries and 14 violence against children and armed robbery/Armed attack ; the highest Incidents ever recorded.
The month of October recorded a total of 88 total Incidents, 98 reported deaths and 167 injuries nationwide, the report said.
Dubbed “State of Security in Ghana”, the report focuses on 17 different indicators such as Youth Related violence; Violence against women; Violence against children; Politically motivated violence; Road accidents; Armed robbery/armed attack; Corruption; Arms proliferation; Murder/Suicide; and Farmer pastoralist clashes.
The rest are Oil and gas/mining related violence; Disaster-Fire outbreaks/arson, floods, rainstorms, drought; Health related violence; Human rights abuse; Threats of violent extremism; Strikes and labour/industrial unrests; Chieftaincy, ethnic, land and religious violence; and Drug related crimes.
