Buipe, Ghana – Four fuel tanker trucks went up in flames Friday evening at the parking lot of the Bulk Oil Storage (BOST) depot at Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region of Ghana.
The four trucks are believed to be filled with fuel at the time of the fire outbreak which started about 8pm.
Savannah News gathered that, the fire is believed to have started following a suspected collision of two tanker trucks at the depot.
Three people have been injured according to snippets of information coming in from the scene of the accident. Two of the injured who are believed to be residents of Buipe reportedly fell down as they attempted to escape from the inferno and are currently admitted at the Buipe Polyclinic. The third victim who has been identified as a driver’s mate has also been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.
Local media report says residents of the Buipe community have since the outbreak of the fire fled for fear of their lives. “people panicked and fled from their tanker trucks, homes and shops near the BOST depot area until Fire Fighters arrived at the scene to control the fire”, Nkilgi FM reports.
The BOST depot facilities have not been affected by the fire.
