Buipe, Ghana – Government will support the construction of a new tanker park at the Buipe depot of the Bulk Oil Storage Terminal (BOST) and upgrading of the fire station at the facility, Deputy Minister for Energy Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam announced today.
Accompanied by Hassan Tampuli, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Moses Asem, Deputy Managing Director of BOST, Dr. Adam inspected state of damage at the Buipe Depot of BOST after fire gutted four tanker cars last week.
The facilities at the Depot according to him were not affected by the fire as the tanker cars were located outside the premises of the Depot.
“…The Ministry of Energy has also directed NPA to conduct safety audit on the facilities to enable a review and improvement on the safety protocols.
“Similar safety audits have recently been conducted at petroleum facilities in Tema, Takoradi and Kumasi through collaborations between NPA and Kosmos Energy”, he made the announcement on his Facebook page moments.
It would be recalled that, four fuel tanker trucks went up in flames Friday January 3rd 2020 in the hours of 20:30GMT at the parking lot of BOST depot at Buipe in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region of Ghana.
The four trucks were believed to be filled with fuel at the time of the fire incident.
Savannah News gathered that, the fire started following a suspected collision of two tanker trucks at the depot.
Three people got injured. Two of the injured who were believed to be residents of Buipe reportedly fell down as they attempted to escape from the inferno. The third victim who had been identified as a driver’s mate was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment but later passed away.
