Damongo, Ghana – Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has paid a one-day working visit to the newly created Savannah Region.
He first visited the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council where he met with the Minister in-charge of the region, Salifu Adam Braimah. Mr. Braimah led his counterpart and his team to meet with the various security services in the region including the Savannah Regional Police Command, Savannah Regional Fire Command and the Regional Immigration Service Command.
The Interior Minister inspected separate guards of honour mounted by the various heads of security commands and also interacted with men and women under them.
He used the opportunity to address several issues raised by the security personnel including accommodation problems, promotions and lack of vehicles to help in their operations in the region.
The Minister and his entourage later paid a courtesy call on the overlord of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yagbonwura Boresa Tuntumba at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo.
The Yagbonwura expressed concern over reported killings going on in the region citing Bole area where recently some persons were shot with one of the victims still receiving treatment in the hospital.
While praising the Police Service in the region for reducing the rate of armed robbery which has become another major problem in the region, he urged them to beef up security in the Bole area where recently one person was shot dead and another person still receiving treat due to gun short injuries.
Interior Minister Ambrose Dery in response, thanked the Yagbonwura for his role in finding lasting solution to the Dagbon chieftaincy stalemate.
He also reminded the Yagbonwura that he was brought up in Damongo and schooled there, and promise to provide adequate resources to help the security in the Savannah Region.
Mr. Ambrose Dery also sought permission from the Yagbonwura to lift the curfew in Bole since the Regional Security Council advised him to do so. But the Yagbonwura asked the Minister to give him time to consult his Traditional Council before getting back to him through the Savannah Regional Minister.
