Yapei-Kusawgu: Apologise to NDC or Forget About Having a Presiding Member at Central Gonja District Assembly

Yapei-Kusawgu, Ghana – The National Democratic Congreas (NDC) in the Central Gonja District of the Savannah Region, has said there will not be a Presiding Member at the District Assembly unless and until the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its parliamentary candidate for the Yapei- Kusawgu Constituency Abu Kamara render an apology to them.

A statement issued by the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Latif lddi Atingpo on Wednesday, said it has become necessary to allow the Central Gonja District Assembly to operate without a Presiding member due to the conduct of some unscrupulous members of the NPP in the district led by Mr. kamara.

Mr. Latif disclosed that immediately after the District Level Elections in December 2019, leadership of the NPP came out with a chart purportedly aligning the duly elected Assembly members on political lines; that is NPP and NDC which they found to be dangerous to the District Assembly concept.

The Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency Secretary of the NDC, said some NPP members even hit the principal street of Buipe, jubilating and making mockery of some NDC members as if the highly unlikely event of the NPP winning the general election had happened.

He said it is so worrying and sickening for leadership of a party to cook figures for the purpose of misleading people.

According to Mr. Latif, out of the thirty (30) duly elected Assembly members in the Central Gonja District Assembly, seventeen (17) of them are card bearing members of the NDC in the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency.  This means that the Central Gonja District Assembly will not get a Presiding member if the NDC decides to hold on to their 17 members, he argued.

“So if Mr. Abu Kamara and the NPP wants the progress of the district, they should come out, eat the humble pie by rendering an unqualified apology for their deadly conduct in the aftermath of the District Assembly Elections so we can build a consensus and elect a presiding member going forward”, the NDC Secretary said.
