Nandom-Hamile Road Not NPP Project– NDC Secretary

Tamale, Ghana – The Nandom Constituency Secretary of the NDC, Cornelius Naasoa Wuobar, has described claims by the Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate of the NPP Ambrose Dery that the Nandom-Hamile road was constructed by Nana Akufo-Addo government as untrue.

According to the NDC Secretary, the Nandom-Hamile road was part of the Nadowli-Lawra-Nandom-Hamile road construction project awarded on contract by the Atta Mills – Mahama administration in 2009.

He further explained that, construction started and work on the road was done from Nadowli to Lawra up to Baseble Kpiyagle before the NDC lost power in 2016.

“The Baseble to Hamile road was awarded to the Burkinabe contractor by the John Mahama’s administration to continue and complete the project before December 2016.”

Mr. Wuobar added that, the Burkinabe contractor was ready to finance the whole project so that government could pay them later. Unfortunately, he said before Oumarou Kananzoe Construction ltd could settle down with their workers for work to start the CEO of the firm Mr. Djibril Kananzoe was accused of bribing H. E John Mahama with a ford vehicle which allegation turned out to be completely false.

“Because of the bribery allegation, Jibril Kananzoe chickened out of the contract. The contract was then repackaged and re-awarded to PW Ghanem in 2016 to complete work from Baseble to Hamile. Construction work started before the NDC government unfortunately lost the 2016 election. The contract included the Nandom township roads. So the claim that the road was first awarded during President J.A. Kufour’s regime and executed under Akufo-Addo’s government is untrue”, Mr Wuobar said in response to the MP for Nandom who made the claim in a facebook post a few days  ago.

“In fact,  in his last press conference as the Upper West Regional Minister under J. A. Kufour’s government, Ambrose Dery boldly stated he returned about GHC2. 8billion old cedis meant for road construction to central government because there was no qualified road contractor in the region”, Mr Wuobar said.

He stated that, the attempt by Ambrose Dery to claim credit for the Nandom-Hamile road and electrification project in Nandom and its surrounding villages is akin to what the entire Akufo-Addo led “sakawa government”  is doing at the national level.

“Projects like the Wa Regional hospital, the University Ghana Medical Centre and many others that were done by former President Mahama before he left office are now being claimed by Nana Akufo-Addo government as their achievements and MPs of this government are also making same false claims at the district and constituency level”, Mr. Wuobar opined.

Mr. Wuobar urged the people of Nandom to vote massively for Dr Richard Kuuire as Nandom MP and John Mahama as president come December 7, 2020.

He said its only by that people of Nandom will get the ultramodern municipal hospital, free primary health care and many other policies and programmes being presented to Ghanaians by John Mahama to create better Ghana and numerous opportunities for everybody including women, youth, children and the aged unlike the Nana Akufo-Addo led sakawa government that only believes in creating opportunities for family and friends.
